Supporting Local Businesses–The Difference Each Person Makes
It’s time to support locally owned businesses more than their multi-million competitors. Many people are accustomed to the idea that shopping at larger sized stores ensures that they will get the best price available (this may be true sometimes). However, let’s take into consideration how much the economy, the local businesses, and you will be effected in the long run (yes, you are affected too).
First and foremost, when there are more businesses available that usually means that there are more jobs available too. These local business owners invest an immense amount of their time, money, and commitment in order to keep their business running. This becomes a lot harder when they are not being supported by their community. In turn, their business becomes difficult to maintain and nearly impossible to grow. Which means, should you ever decide you’d like to go to this local business for service, they may not be around anymore. Wouldn’t that be unfortunate?
Let’s also take into consideration that the customer service offered is much more personal and genuine—you really feel a difference! For larger companies, every client is just another number; a monetary walking figure. For smaller companies, every client has a name, a story and an act in helping their business grow.
“But we need to think about saving money!” It’s understood that money becomes a large factor when people decide where to take their business. It isn’t fair to assume that larger companies will provide inexpensive pricing. Even if the dollar amount is less than the competitor, what about the extra money spent going to that store? What about the extra time spent at the that location, or getting to the location, or even standing in lines or sitting in waiting rooms—it’s not ideal. We often take for granted the services we could be receiving due to a few extra dollars.
It’s about time that we start supporting those small businesses that are trying to accomplish more and provide more for their communities. We should start taking into consideration the quality we have available for us to receive and the convenience that draws it all together. Remember that although quantity is tempting, nothing beats quality—ever!
