Motorcycles: Micro-chipped or not?
Many of us already understand the basis of automotive transponder keys (if not, you should read our article posted about them!). Are you aware that many motorcycles are micro-chipped as well? You guessed it—those keys need to be programmed! This is more common for Canadian motorcycles and International scooters and bikes.
A few of the motorcycles that are commonly found with transponder chips are Honda, Vespa, and Yamaha. Let’s get into further detail, shall we? Yamaha released their R-model, such as the R1, R2, and R3 and so on. A simple way to check if the motorcycle uses a transponder chip is by turning your current key in the ignition and checking for a red light to appear on the cluster. No red light? This means that the bike does not take a transponder key. However, if you do happen to see the red lights appear then that means there is a high possibility that the motorcycle needs a chip programmed in order to start the bike. Another example is Ducati. Ducati bikes are all micro-chipped. It is after all a high-end bike, which means the security should be up to par with the rest of the quality of the make.
