Master Key Systems – Get Informed

Master Key Systems have the ability to unify door locks and padlocks. This type of system allows you to use the same master key to open all door locks and padlocks, while still having the ability to separate each lock with its own individual key to use.

If you’re looking to expand your company in the years ahead there is a record keeping list that is used to reference the current keys cut and ensures that there are no duplicates created. This will maintain the safeguard of the security system.

A master key system has four potential levels:

  • Sub Master – This key may open more than one lock, but not all of the doors assigned to the system (usually given to employees of the business).
  • Master – This key can open all of the locks assigned to a particulars stores entire department (usually given to the department manager or supervisor)
  • Grand Master – This key will open all of the locks in the particular building with the key system (usually given to the general manager)
  • Great Grand Master – This key is made to open all of the locks under the master key systems set up for this business, which can include more than one location (usually given to the CEO of the business).

The structure of your future master key system is customizable to your needs. It does not have to follow this stature or structure. Most companies simplify the master key system for their business to avoid lost keys and expenses due for those mistakes. Rekeying cylinders when a key is lost is definitely a solution, however, the price becomes more expensive the higher ranked the master key is; for example, losing a great grand master key will cost more for rekeying than losing only a sub-master key because there are more locks that need their combination changed.
